Just recovering from Christmas madness, huh?  It feels like barely a moment has passed and suddenly New Year’s Eve is already upon us! Not to worry, a party is a reason to celebrate not to stress. Here are some easy ways to ring in the new year in style.

Time it right.

A New Year’s cocktail party should kick off late, after 9 pm, giving you more time to prepare and less to do. Set it for a time after dinner, so guests won’t arrive starving and you don’t have to be responsible for preparing a full meal.

Work with what you have.

There’s no need to spend time and money on decor, your house is probably in the holiday spirit already, and some simple tweaks can take it from homey to glam in no time! Start by turning glittery ornaments into festive place cards. From doves to angels, gorgeous ornaments will get the proper spotlight when highlighted on your dinner table. Another idea? Since New Year’s Eve is all about nostalgia, pull out pictures of family and friends and display on tabletops and mantles as warm reminders of months past.

Make it meaningful.

Pass out paper and pens and ask everyone to write down regrets from the past year, and intentions for the new year. Take turns throwing the “bad habits” in the fireplace (or a trash can to be safe) and reading the “good intentions” aloud to the group. This sweet ceremony will create a sense of happiness and community. [pagebreak]

Easy and elegant eats.

For small bites, spruce up with an old pantry staple: nuts. Check out these Maple Chile Walnuts, Ancho Spice Cashews, or Cayenne Cocoa Almonds.

Who can resist a pizza? Make a mini version of this Chili Goat Cheese Pizza with Roasted Pumpkin and Bacon for a bite that’s elegant but filling. You can pass around and serve, or just leave in a festive platter by the bar.

When it comes to serving food at a party, your appetizers should look sassy on the table, but be simple to prepare. Try a Spanish Tortilla, a fun twist on the “midnight brunch” that’s substantial, inexpensive, and even better served cold the next morning! Also whip up these fun holiday sides with a Latin twist: coconut collard greens and Ecuadorian mashed potatoes

Finally, don’t forget the desserts for your sweet-toothed guests! Choose recipes that can be made ahead of time and are easy to divide into individual portions. Suggestions? Almond Alfajores, Ancho Almond Truffles, or White Chocolate Cinnamon Peppermint Bark.

Break out the bubbly.

Nothing screams celebration like flowing fizz, but forgo expensive champagne and instead reach for some affordable sparkling alternatives. More pocket-friendly than Champagne — but equally posh — there are quality and well-priced sparklers from around the globe: Italian Prosecco, Spanish Cava, Alsatian Cremants, and even domestic bubbly made in New York and Oregon. We love Hi! Prosecco—the fun label “welcomes” in the New Year for only $10!

Don’t forget to dazzle.

Besides your best friend’s wedding, what other day of the year do you have permission to get dolled up and dance? Let loose and request your guests dress in cocktail attire — a tux, sequins, or little black dresses feel appropriate.

Follow these party tips, and we’re sure they will help to ring in a bright New Year!
