Seven Michelin-starred chef, Martin Berastegui, known for his Basque cuisine, has partnered up with Paradisus Resorts to bring his expertise and food to their all-inclusive resorts. They first introduced the restaurant Passion by Martin Berastegui in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico in December 2011, recently opened two more restaurants in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, and there are talks of an opening in Costa Rica sometime next year.

While Berastegui is widely recognized as one of the great chefs and has restaurants as far as Shanghai, that doesn’t stop him from feeling a connection to the Dominican people.

"I’ve worked closely with three incredible Dominicans in my kitchen and have a lot in common with them and the Dominican Republic as a whole, so I’m very excited about these restaurants," says Berastegui.

In April, Paradisus Resorts opened the doors to Fuego Gastro Bar by Martin Berasategui at Paradisus Punta Cana All-Inclusive Resort that offers Spanish-inspired tapas and a fine dining eatery, Passion by Martin Berasategui, at Paradisus Palma Real All-Inclusive Resort that will focus strongly on seafood and will keep with Berastegui’s philosophy of sourcing local ingredients.

“I like the products here and the fact that you don’t have to be embarrassed to show quality of the food. I am fortunate to have these countrymen tend so carefully to their small farms and fresh produce and I feel privileged to cook here,” says Berastegui.
